Clarendon Team News – 21st October 2017

Hello everyone!

Today (Saturday) starts with a wonderful opportunity to go to an Art Exhibition in the Pitton Village Hall. It is Sharon Rogers Art Group and it is from 10-4.30 and refreshments will be served. Well worth visiting! Then on Sunday we have two Eucharist services with Nils presiding in Farley and Sarah Wood-Roe presiding in Pitton. We hope to see many of you in church as we all make the most of having both our two priests before they go off to their separate new jobs!

Please also note that the Tuesday Group meets again on the 24th at Whitehill Lodge when there is an opportunity to hear two Missionaries, Paul and Abbie Brooks, talk about their work abroad. Please ask for more details from Sara, Joan or Debbie.

With very best wishes for a happy weekend from Sara and Jane

For the attention of the Winterslow Congregation: Service of Nine Lessons and Carols Sunday December 17th at 6.00pm

Every year in the past we have managed to get together a choir for the Carol Service. Sadly a number of people who used to sing with us have moved away or are unavailable. I am wondering if some members of the congregation would like to get together to learn two or three straightforward carols to add a bit of variety to the service. I fear the term “Choir” might be overstating things but I should be very happy to be proved wrong.
I look forward to hearing from you.  Janice 862680; janicebrown@waitrose.com

There will be an art exhibition on Saturday 21st October, from 10am – 4.30pm at Pitton Village Hall, by local artist Sharon Rogers. Tea, coffee and home-made cake will be offered (proceeds to Pitton Village Hall). Please support this local event.

Children’s Society Boxes – a message from Dennis Barnes.

The time has come around again to hand in the boxes. Last year £750 was raised for the Society. Dennis will be at St John’s Church on 4th November and at All Saints, Winterslow on 11th November to receive the boxes. Alternatively, they can be taken to Kings Farm Cottage. Kay Putnam has kindly agreed to help count the money this year and it is hoped that the boxes will be ready to return to you by the beginning of December. Thank you very much to everyone who has donated through the boxes this year.
NB: Please put your name, address and telephone number on a slip of paper and post this inside the box, before you hand it back.

Please note that this will be the last Weekly Newssheet until 3rd November. The Clarendon Team office will be open again on 31st October.

Hosting with HOSTUK 2017-18

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Hebrews 13:2

How true such advice can be. Hospitality is an equal partnership, the feel-good factor of offering it and the delight in receiving it. HOST UK is a charity whose mission is to give a welcome to international students in British homes for friendship and cultural exchange. We operate all year round including Christmas and New Year when being welcomed into a home is vastly preferable to lonely halls of residence. Hospitality can be offered for one day (daytime only), three days and two nights at the weekend, or at New Year, or four days and three nights during the Christmas festive period. The choice is yours. And remember…your offer can be made at any time of the year.
