Clarendon Team News – 16th February 2018

Dear Friends,

Trussell Trust Plea!

We have heard from the Trussell Trust that they are particularly low in the following foodstuffs: rice pudding, dried milk, steamed pudding, instant mashed potato and UHT long life fruit juice. They have plenty of everything else so if you are able to donate some of these low items then that would be fantastic. There is a collection box in St Peter’s so you can drop off your donations any time, it does not have to be during the morning service. Thank you very much.

Canon Jeremy Davies on the Radio!!

Jeremy has written the script for, and is delivering the address next Sunday Feb 18 on Radio 4 Sunday Worship from St Matthews Westminster at 8am.

And so what do we have on offer this weekend in our two churches? The Methodist service is in Pitton with our own Reverend Bryan Coates and we have a visitor in Farley; Canon Anthony Hawley will be presiding at the Parish Eucharist Service. We are extremely grateful to our visiting Priests who are helping out during the Interregnum. Canon Hawley will be coming to Pitton for the Easter Day Celebration Eucharist so please do make him very welcome in our Parish!

The Lent Groups are advertised in detail below and all are welcome to join into which ever course suits you best.

If you haven’t got your Lent book yet, then do pick one up from the back of the churches: the whole Diocese are joining in with a daily reading, reflection and prayer which is a great way to start the day!

With very best wishes from Jane and Sara and please see the Team Notices below:

For details of all services across the Team, please check the Team website.

There are no Funerals in the Team this week

Sunday, 29th April is a ‘fifth Sunday’. There will therefore be a single team Eucharist service and Whiteparish have the pleasure of hosting it. In the spirit of such an event, if singers from other parishes would like to join with the Whiteparish choir, they would be most welcome.

The service setting will be David Thorne’s ‘Mass of St Thomas’. Hymns will be chosen nearer the time.

The anthem during communion will be ‘Rejoice in the Lord alway’, in the setting by Henry Purcell which is sometimes called the Bell Anthem, on account of the instrumental introduction. It mixes verses sung by soloists (from the Whiteparish choir who have sung this before) with choruses for full choir. It is therefore not unduly challenging musically (and great fun to sing!) as, for choir members, it is essentially about singing two choruses a few times!

If you would like to be in the choir for this service, please let Richard Tulloch know (richard_tulloch@hotmail.com or 01725 511486) and he will get the music to you in advance. Attending the rehearsal on Friday the 27th would suffice.

ADVANCE NOTICE: The Annual Springcleaning of All Saints, Winterslow will take place on Saturday 24th March from 10 am to 12 noon (approx). All offers of help will be very gratefully received.

From St Paul’s Church in Salisbury:

Restored Lives is a seven week course which seeks to support those who have experienced the pain of separation or divorce. Feedback from our recent course was very positive and the group found it really helpful.

Our next course starts on Wednesday 21st February at 7pm at SP2 Coffee Shop and Community Centre. The evening starts with a meal together and finishes by 9.30pm. There is some helpful teaching on DVD and some group discussion.A small contribution towards the meal is helpful but not essential and should not put people off attending.
