Riyad came to play for us some years ago, but we are delighted to welcome back this Syrian pianist whose individual style has just won him the coveted Liszt competition in Budapest. Not only will he play the Lizst Paganini Etude No.6, but also Beethoven’s Sonata in E flat major, Op.27, no.1, and some Russian music too, so it promises to be an exciting evening.

The day Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison opened the Whistle Stop Cafe, the town took a turn for the better. It was the Depression and that cafe was a home from home for many of us.Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is a mouth-watering tale of love, laughter and mystery.

Viktor is an old friend of Farley, having played at one of the first festivals. This Serbian pianist is a musician of exceptional charm and technical brilliance. His return visit offers a chance to see just how much this artist has matured recently in a programme that includes Chopin’s magnificent Ballades and Liszt’s Stunning 6th Hungarian Rhapsody.

The International Young Soloists Trio is one of the projects of the inventive Hungarian pianist Alexandra Balog. The group is a versatile ensemble which can be expanded, but in this concert, Alexandra is joined by the Korean Violinist Jane Kim and the Hungarian Cellist Réka Adorjáni in an attractive programme comprising Beethoven’s magnificent Appassionata Sonata, Chopin’s Polonaise for Cello and Piano and Brahms’s beautiful first piano trio.

Multi-instrumentalist Egyptian sisters Sarah and Laura Ayoub are returning to Farley via the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, London Palladium, Abbey Road and the BAFTAS. Discovered by Mark Ronson and now signed to Decca Records, their first album debuted at No.1 in the Official Classical Artist Albums Chart.

The Clarendon Art group (formerly known as the Winterslow Art Group) continues to flourish and now meets in the very pleasant and well lit hall in Farley every Friday.

We have recently completed an exciting exhibition at Salisbury Hospital with sixty-five paintings, many of them very large, under the theme “Out of Africa”. This was a selection of artworks influenced by the African landscape, its colours, animals and culture. Some of the work was painted and glazed on tiles , which is a new venture for us.

The others included water colours, acrylics, pastels and collage. Art by this group is on display at the Hook and Glove in Farley and the lst floor restaurant at the Edinbugh Woollen Mill at Wilton Village.

For any enquiries please contact Diana Jarvis on 01980 862169.

We meet from 10.00am – 12 noon every Friday, and, weather permitting try to do painting outdoors in the summer.
