Farley Music Festival : Hatstand Opera : Golden Moments from Opera

Saturday 24 June 2017 at 19:00

Hilarious scenes and heart-rending arias from the world’s favourite operas, presented by Hatstand’s professional singers and pianist. Quick costume changes and informal presentation combine with top-notch singing for a great evening of music and laughter.

Hatstand Opera are delighted to be back in Wiltshire, the county where it all started for the UK’s leading opera highlights company, 21 years ago.

Under the (much missed) Salisbury and District Rural Touring Scheme, Hatstand’s performers toured the county performing in village halls and churches from Compton Chamberlain to West Dean, Durrington to Teffont Magna, Redlynch and Newton Toney.

Rural touring often involved performing in limited spaces, changing in vestries and kitchens, and singing almost nose to nose with their audience, so Hatstand’s experienced performers will feel right at home in the intimate surroundings of Farley Church!

Word soon spread along village grapevines about the group’s entertaining and informal opera style. Soon, Hatstand were invited to perform at HQ Land Command Wilton for a dining room full of generals, the first of many military Mess dinner performances. To date they have sung for all branches of the military across the UK and beyond, from The Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall to the NATO SHAPE HQ in Belgium.

Hundreds of Wiltshire school children have also enjoyed working with Hatstand, including pupils from Sandroyd, Chafyn Grove and Leaden Hall school, (who staged a joint performance with HSO at Salisbury Playhouse).

If you’ve seen Hatstand Opera, you’ll know how enjoyable and entertaining their opera highlights shows are whether you love opera or don’t know your aria from your elbow. If not, you’re in for a treat. So, book early to avoid disappointment!

Tickets £15.00 (£10.00 for Friends of Farley Music) from Salisbury Playhouse (01722 320333), or on the door, to include an interval drink
